The Monkey Exhibit
(Woman to Chimpanzee)
Li smiled as she paced through the exhibits at her new job. This was her first real day on the job, and she was totally killing it. Who knew working the ape exhibit at the National Zoo was so easy? Hell, all of the animals seemed to love the guards—even though they were a little cautious of her. She’d just need to keep at it, and she’d be friends with them for sure.
“You like how things are going, kiddo?”
The voice of her mentor startled her into the present, and she grinned at the middle-aged man leaning on a wall across from her. He was swirling a small test tube in his hands, and the Asian girl looked at him with a wry smile. “What’s the lab stuff for, Tommy?”
Tommy straightened up, holding it out. “Tonight’s your first night working alone, right? This is a little rite of passage for you.”
Li picked it from his hands, looking at the vial warily. “What, I have to drink this? What is it?
